While Sámi and other arctic indigenous people are among the people most vulnerable to the climate crisis, they have learnt to alert every time ‘green transition’ is mentioned. Behind the shiny image of “green” projects there are often the old models of extraction and exploitation of land and natural resources that Indigenous people know all too well.

TED-talk introduces the recent report “Just Transition or ‘Green Colonialism’? published by Amnesty International and Saami Council. Report studies how mineral extraction and new energy projects are threatening Indigenous Sámi livelihoods and culture in Sweden, Norway and Finland, and suggests that Implementing and strengthening the FPIC principle would be a crucial step towards more just and human rights consistent energy transition.
